The Word that sets free...

The preaching of John the Baptist, Jesus, Peter and Paul in their day turned the establishment upside-down.

It was the proclamation of repentance, of the Good News, the Kingdom of God and the Cross that led to profound changes in a society in which the religious thinking, whether Jewish or pagan, seemed forever carved in marble.

Jean the Baptist said, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near!”(Matt3.2) Peter cried out “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…” (Acts 2.38 NIV) Paul wrote “I decided that while I was with you I would forget about everything except Jesus Christ and his death on the cross.” (1 Cor 2.2 NCV)

It’s still the same message that has power for “teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live...” (2 Tim 3.16 CEV) May we remember still today that apart from this, there may be other things “that itching ears want to hear” (2 Tim 4.3 NIV) but that don’t have the power to bring the life of God to listeners or readers.

The world doesn’t need words, it needs the Word of God! As disciples of Jesus Christ, let’s be servants of the Word! (Luke 1.2)
